What is the RightsTrade marketplace?


The RightsTrade marketplace is an online marketplace for film, TV and digital media rights licensing. It provides you with innovative ways to promote, screen and sell your content to thousands of buyers with detailed analytics on buyer activity.




Do RightsTrade's buyers go through any vetting process?


Buyers' company applications will be scrutinized through a vetting process that will check their identity and the accuracy of their company details and acquisition activities. To this end, buyers are asked to verify their company’s professional credentials by listing some recent activity including any of the following:

  • Acquired titles
  • Companies acquired from
  • Acquisition territories
  • Film market accreditation
  • Other credentials or professional references




Do you provide a Seller's instruction manual?


Yes, you can find the Sellers Manual in your "Company Profile" menu, which has detailed explanations about how to use our platform. You can also contact us at info@rightstrade.com with any additional questions.




How can I communicate my available rights?


RightSearch™ allows our community of vetted buyers to search for your title's available rights. You will also be able to automatically generate your own title availability reports to assist your marketing and sales efforts. Simply add search parameters such as rights group, territory, and date to searches in order to immediately pull avails for those criteria.




How do I connect with buyers on the platform?


There are many different ways to connect with buyers on RightsTrade. Sellers can maximize sales opportunities from 5000+ buyers.

Buyer-outreach: Vetted buyers on RightsTrade have the ability to browse titles and then make inquiries and request screeners. When a buyer finds your content via your title page or a RightSearch, they can reach out directly on any titles of interest. Any member of your company has the ability to approve or deny a screener request.

Seller-outreach: You can reach out to specific buyers with targeted screeners based on availability by territory and rights.

RightsTrade Marketing: In addition, RightsTrade offers data-driven marketing campaigns to connect buyers and sellers with similar interests. Analytics powered recommendation campaigns drive activity on seller titles.




How do I find relevant buyers?


RightsTrade has more than 5,000 buyers across 125 countries who span all key distribution territories and channels. This includes companies that buy for television, streaming platforms, airlines, international, studios, theatrical and all rights. Why should I use this screening room?


There are other screening rooms in the market. We believe the RightsTrade is the best solution for content sellers for several reasons:

How secure is the screening room?


To achieve the highest level of security possible, our backend security captures detailed information of each screener view. This information includes a unique user ID number, email address, device used, IP address and geo-targeting, allowing us to identify and trace every screening that occurs. Every RightsTrade screener is also secured by the following mechanisms:

  1. A screener requires an AUTHORIZATION be granted to the viewing user by any SELLER/ADMIN at the rights-holding company.
  2. The AUTHORIZATION is tied to the viewer’s account credentials (username/password)
  3. The AUTHORIZATION is time-limited to a specified date-range and access can be limited down to the minute
  4. The AUTHORIZATION can optionally be limited to a certain number of views
  5. The AUTHORIZATION can be optionally limited to a certain number of “devices” (browser/computer combination). So for example, you can limit the authorization to only three devices (eg: Work computer, home computer, and iPad). If the user tries to view on a fourth device, they will be unable.
Our advanced security features also include watermarking of the buyers name across the screener, the size and placement of which can be preset by the sales company. Our screening room is powered by Amazon S3, the leading web-services interface developed by Amazon Web Services to store and retrieve any data from the web. Amazon S3 is compliant with the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) set of best practices for securely storing, processing, and delivering protected media and content.




How should I send you my video assets?


We will securely handle the transcode/upload process of your film from any format. In order to get started, contact us at info@rightstrade.com and our client support managers will walk you through the asset delivery process.




Can I invite buyers that are not registered at RightsTrade to watch my films?


Of course! You can invite any of your contacts to screen and they will be taken directly to your screener. They will be able to watch the screener by simply providing a username and password.




I just sent a screener invitation - how do I track activity?


RightsTrade offers extensive analytics and a responsive dashboard where you can see who has viewed your screeners. You can find this information under Account >> Titles & Screeners. From there, you can filter by title and date range to see your screener invites, plays, total view time, and average view time.




How do I set up and upload my content?


To list your content on RightsTrade, you will first need to be an active subscriber. To get your titles up and listed on the platform, simply send along your metadata, key art, screeners, and avails, and we take care of the rest.

How do I track who has viewed my screeners?


Your screener invitations are retained for you to search and explore. You will be able to filter searches by title, user, authorization and expiration dates. You can also edit invitations that have already been sent in order to revoke or extend the authorization.

How do I register my company?


Once you register as a RightsTrade member, you will be asked to create a new company profile or associate your profile to an already registered company. The information you provide will help us vet your company. Once your company application has been verified and approved, you will become the company administrator.




What can a company administrator do?


As a company administrator you will be allowed to edit your company profile and settings, assign roles, approve membership requests, remove members from your company, and define and edit notifications that every company member receives.




How do I become a company administrator?


When registering your company for the first time, you will automatically become the company administrator. You can also be assigned as company administrator by other company administrators.




How can I edit/update my company profile?


Only company administrators are allowed to edit company profiles and settings. You can edit your company profile by accessing the "Company Profile" menu. From here you will be able to edit all fields except for "Company Name" and "Company Activities." You can contact us at info@rightstrade.com and we will vet those fields.




How do I register my user account?


Any entertainment industry executive can register for a free RightsTrade account.To register and provide more information about your company and its activities or associate your profile to an existing company, please follow this link: https://rightstrade.com/ui/Pages/Join/RegisterEmail.aspx




How do I get started as a seller?


While you can register for free as a seller on RightsTrade, if you would like to list your titles and start sharing and screening your content on the platform you will need to select a subscription package. Please contact us at info@rightstrade.com to get started.




How much does it cost to screen and sell on RightsTrade?


There are no transaction fees for any deal you complete on the platform. You keep 100% of your sales.

In order to screen and sell on RightsTrade, you must be an active subscriber. Subscription tiers on RightsTrade depend on the size of your catalog. Contact us at info@rightstrade.com for more information and to get started.




Can I use RightsTrade without being associated to a company?


As an online marketplace of vetted and trusted industry professionals, we encourage all users to associate themselves with an already registered company or to register their company on our site. We want to ensure the integrity and reliability of the RightsTrade marketplace. Although you can postpone this step, as a user with no associated company you will not be able to access all of the RightsTrade features.




Can I share or transfer my account?


As an online marketplace of vetted and trusted industry professionals we want to make sure that you know who you are dealing with. Accounts are personal and may not be shared or transferred without our permission. Doing so is in conflict with the Terms & Conditions of your registration. Can I have more than one account?


Each member account is associated to an email address and a member company, which will require the approval of the company administrator. You can only have multiple accounts associated with different companies as long as you provide separate emails and receive the required permissions from the corresponding company administrators.




How do I know if I am considered a seller or a buyer under RightsTrade criteria?


If you are a content owner, rightsholder, or authorized sales representative in the business of licensing media distribution rights, you are a seller. If you are a member of a vetted company that is in the business of acquiring media rights to distribute or sub-distribute in at least one audio-visual medium, you are a buyer. If you are representing a film festival, a media outlet or any other business related to the media and entertainment industry, there is a place for you on RightsTrade. By generating your company profile, you and your organization will be searchable entities within the platform. Any seller will be able to send you screeners.
